Privacy policy
What data this site does and doesn’t collect, who it’s shared with, and the rights you have over it.
Please have this reviewed by legal counsel
This privacy policy is provided as a clear, good-faith starting point. It is not legal advice. Privacy law varies by jurisdiction and changes over time. Before relying on this policy, the site owner should have it reviewed and tailored by a qualified attorney for their specific circumstances, regions served and the actual third-party services in use.
Last updated: 4 June 2026. This policy explains how harddisc.net (‘we’, ‘us’, ‘the site’) handles information when you visit. By using the site you agree to the practices described here.
The short version
harddisc.net is a static comparison site. There are no user accounts, no logins and no forms that store your personal data on our servers. We don’t sell your data. The limited data that is processed comes from standard web infrastructure, optional analytics, and the affiliate networks behind some outbound links.
What we don’t collect
- No accounts: the site has no registration or login, so we hold no usernames, passwords or profiles.
- No selling of data: we do not sell, rent or trade personal information.
- No on-site forms storing data: we ask you to contact us by email rather than through a server-side form, so contact details aren’t stored in a site database.
What may be collected
- Server & technical logs: like virtually all websites, our hosting and content-delivery providers may automatically record standard technical information — IP address, browser type, device, referring page and timestamp — for security, performance and abuse-prevention purposes.
- Analytics: we may use a privacy-respecting analytics tool to understand aggregate, anonymised traffic (which pages are popular, broad geography, device type). Where used, this may set cookies or similar identifiers; the specifics depend on the provider in use.
- Cookies & similar technologies: the site itself relies on minimal cookies. However, outbound affiliate links typically set affiliate-network cookies on your browser when you click them, so the retailer can attribute a resulting purchase. These are set by the affiliate network and retailer, not by us, and are subject to their own policies.
Affiliate links and third parties
Some links to retailers are affiliate links (see our affiliate disclosure). When you click one, the affiliate network and the destination retailer may place cookies and process data about your visit and any purchase under their own privacy policies, over which we have no control. Other third parties whose services may process data include our hosting/CDN provider and, where used, our analytics provider. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any retailer you buy from.
How any data is used
Information that is processed is used only to operate, secure and improve the site — keeping it online and fast, preventing abuse, understanding aggregate usage, and (via affiliate networks) crediting purchases that fund the site. We do not use it to build advertising profiles of you.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data — for example under the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA). These can include the right to access, correct or delete your data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to opt out of any ‘sale’ or ‘sharing’ of personal information (we do not sell personal information). You can also control or block cookies through your browser settings; doing so may affect affiliate attribution but not your ability to use the site.
Data retention & security
Any technical logs are retained only as long as needed for security and operational purposes, in line with our providers’ standard practices. We rely on reputable hosting and use standard safeguards (such as HTTPS) to protect data in transit, though no method of transmission over the internet is ever completely secure.
Children
The site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site or applicable law changes. Material changes will be reflected by updating the ‘last updated’ date above. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
